Different and rather numerous articles say that it is a good idea to apply rubber roofing on the shingles that are already on the roof. But the truth is that if your roofing is made in such a way and the surface was not absolutely clean no producer will give you a garantee on the roof. So, don't forget to remove all the shingles you already have and be sure to have a new plywood underlayment if it's necessary for the future cover.

Benefits of Rubber Roofing Applied by Yourself

There is a range of stylistic approaches in rubber roofing that can be applied oneself. They are sold in rolls and shingles, colours may be different too. As for the way of installing it's the same for both kinds. If you install the rubber roofing right, it will give secure to your roof under any weather conditions and it won't be afraif either of splitting or to cracking. This kind of roofing cover is considered to be perfect for flat roofs. Being flexible this kind of material answers the changes in temperature - it may expand or contract with the roof. Thanks to this quality this kind of roof is not spoilt that quickly as asphalt roofing shingles. In fact, the first roofing of this kind was applied in 1980 and it is still used bringing full satisfaction to the owners and this is after nearly three decades of Wisconsin winters!

Adhesive is necessary when you are installing rubber roofing in shingles or rolls yourself. The surface of the roof must be tidy and there should be nothing sticking out of the surface and prevent from walking on the roof. Ensure there is no moisture, dust (if there is one, use a leaf blower!), oil or rubbish on the roof before you will use abhesive to apply the self installed rubber roofing.

The Process of Rubber Roofing Appliance

Unroll the self applied roofing made of rubber on the territory you plan to cover, cut the wholes to fit existing pipes or vents. Remember, you should take care of cutting first and only then use adhesive. Roll up the cover to the half, use the adhasive in a thin layer and with a deep nap paint roller. Apply the glue evenly and then use it on the roofing made of rubber and give it time to stick.

Spread the glue, leave it for some minutes, then roll the roofing our on the roof covered with glue. Smooth placing of the cover material is important, there will be hardly a chance to change the place of the cover if it's installed already. Do this process on half of the roofing, it will take an hour for it to get dry and only then take care of the second part.
