Transylvanian hound is quite an old breed of Hungarian Foxhound. Dogs of this breed have two varieties: higher and lower hounds. Low hound is now on the verge of extinction. A large variety of Transylvanian hounds is more common and is used for hunting game. Also, this dog can act as a retriever. Low hounds are used to hunt fox and hare.

Transylvanian hound recognizes one owner, easily amenable to training, obedient and friendly. It requires not much from its owner. With the dogs of this breed you will have a good time, however, some representatives of the breed tend to independence. Transylvanian hound is unpretentious and does not require virtually no grooming. The house dog behaves calmly, it does not quarrel with other dogs, relates well to other animals, it is very fond of children.

The average price for this breed is about $800-$900. You can find cheaper or more expensive price depending on the breeder and the place where you buy your pet. The show quality puppy may cost more than $1000. You should ask to look at the parents of the dog and to ask for all necessary documents proving its pedigree before buying the dog.

Transylvanian Hound Colors, Shedding, Full Size and Average Weight

It is almost square format. The neck is muscular, of medium length. The chest is long and wide. Back is straight. Croup is slightly sloping. Belly is slightly tucked up. They are strong and muscular. Feet are round and tight. Toes are strong, with black claws. Tail is inserted low. The short-legged type has short, straight, thick hair. The long-legged type: longer, thick and hard hair, there is undercoat.

As for the color: short-legged type is brown and tan (reddish) light markings on the abdomen and extremities. A long-legged type: black, red spots on the eyebrows, face and extremities. Each of the types often has white spots on the forehead, chest, legs and tip of tail. The height at the withers for short-legged type: 45 - 50 cm. A long-legged type: 55 - 65 cm. The weight is about 30 - 35 kg.

Keep a dog in the house where the dog would have constant access to the street. They love to walk in the air and run around in the fields and in the woods - the best thing that can happen to them ever. In the four walls Transylvanian Hound behaves very calm, but it is sad. To compensate the lack of freedom, you can buy your pet toys that it could run with them even in the apartment.

Outside keep the dog under control, wear a leash and do not allow contact with other dogs. The fact that its friendliness, its activity can bring to something bad. Other dogs may show aggression and indeed the Transylvanian hound will not be silent, and answer them.
